About Us
The mission of OMEA is:
- to ensure that every student in grades K-12 receives a high-quality, sequential music education, provided by a certified music educator,
- to provide professional development for pre-service and in-service music teachers,
- to create a better awareness of the value of music education, and
- to recognize outstanding student musicians in Oklahoma through All-OMEA organizations.
To accomplish this, we have the following strategic goals:
- Recruit future teachers and retain existing teachers through projects such as Tri-M, CMENC, and a mentoring program for new teachers on a statewide basis.
- Continually evaluate the effectiveness of All-OMEA organizations, and add new ensembles if warranted.
- Develop a special promotional campaign designed for school administrators that promotes music as an essential part of education.
- Facilitate the professional growth, development, and revitalization of music educators.
- Develop leaders in the field of music education.
- Increase membership by presenting a variety of workshops and programs that will be especially beneficial to music teachers in rural and urban areas.
- Continue the development of the Early Childhood Program.
- Influence state and federal legislation to further our mission.
- Encourage and recognize excellence in music education through awards and honor group selection.
- Strengthen alliances and involvement with other arts organizations in Oklahoma.
