OMEA In-Service Conferences

OMEA provides two opportunities for professional development each year: a Fall Conference and the Winter In-Service Conference. Don't miss either opportunity to network with fellow music educators, improve your teaching and administrative skills, and hear great musical performances! Recharge your batteries among friends, and renew your love for teaching music.

The Fall Conference (October 16, 2008) is a one-day event during the traditional teacher in-service day (during Fall Break for most districts). A General Session and two clinics are provided in each of the following teaching areas: Elementary, Band, Orchestra, and Collegiate. There is also a small exhibit area for vendors. The workshop has been held for many years at Western Heights HS in southwestern Oklahoma City, and we are grateful to the school administration and to Mark Cain, WHHS Choral Director, for hosting the workshop.

The cost of attending the Fall Conference is very moderate: $10 for OMEA members; $25 for non-members; free for collegiate members and first-year teachers; and $10 for collegiate non-members. Registration is only available on-site, there is no pre-registration for the Fall Workshop.

The Winter In-Service Convention (January 28 - 31, 2009) runs from a Wednesday to a Saturday in January (see dates for future workshops here). The All-OMEA Band, Orchestra, Chorus, Children's Chorus, Jazz Ensemble, and the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Honor Band rehearse and perform at this convention. There are many clinics in each teaching area featuring nationally known and regionally respected clinicians. At this workshop, OMEA honors new inductees into the OMEA Hall of Fame and the Administrator of the Year. We also present performances of OMEA Honor Groups -- school and university bands, choirs, orchestras, and jazz ensembles chosen by a blind selection process each summer.
