All-OMEA Children's Chorus

The All-OMEA Children's Chorus is a related, but separate event within the umbrella of Circle the State with Song. Many of your Region Festival singers will submit a tape or CD to audition for membership in the All-OMEA Children's Chorus. This is a wonderful opportunity for talented singers and their teachers to grow as musicians.

As state chairs for the sixteenth annual Circle the State with Song (CTSWS) festivals, and the 2009 All-OMEA Children’s Chorus, we want to invite your participation in this year’s most outstanding musical opportunity for fourth– through eighth–grade students with unchanged voices!

Teachers may choose students from their music classes to participate in their CTSWS region festivals.  These students will be expected to learn the eight selections from the CTSWS repertoire list.  Seventeen regions across the state will present an individual CTSWS festival during the months of January, February or March, 2009.   

Once students are registered to participate in their individual CTSWS region festival, they may then audition for the 2009 All-OMEA Children’s Chorus, which traditionally numbers around 140 singers.

This prestigious group will perform at the general session of the OMEA conference, at the Tulsa Convention Center on Friday, January 22, 2009.  They will perform selections from the CTSWS repertoire, as well as additional compositions selected by the clinician, Sandra Snow.  The commissioned piece will be written by our own Cristi Miller.

The audition process for the All-OMEA Children’s Choir will be the same as the last two years.  Everyone will use the same pre-recorded audition CD for practice, as well as the tape-recorded audition.  The audition CD is available for $7.00.  You may order the CD by downloading the form at our web site:  www.okmea.org.  You must include a check or purchase order. 

To register students for these experiences, the teacher must be an active member of OMEA.  Please read all instructions carefully.  New deadlines are in place and will be strictly enforced.  Complete information and application forms for CTSWS and the All-OMEA Children’s Chorus are available on the OMEA web site.

Oct. 3, Friday – CTSWS late deadline ($30)

Oct. 10, Friday – Children’s All-OMEA late deadline ($15)
Must be sent overnight delivery to the All-OMEA Chair
                    
Oct. 16, Thursday – Children’s All-OMEA emergency deadline ($100)
 Must be hand delivered to the All-OMEA Chair at the
Fall In-service Meeting by 9:00 AM
