Drummers will also play sixteen bars of each of the following styles: funk at 110 bpm, swing at 110bpm, double-time swing at 220 bpm, double-time swing trading fours (four bars of time/ four bars of solo) at 220 bpm, samba at 220 bpm and jazz waltz at 220 bpm. We will provide a drum set. Students who want to use their own drum sets need to set up in the band room by 8:00 AM on the day of the audition.

Sight-reading:

All students will sight-read following their prepared audition piece.

Improvisation: (Updated Sept. 30)

An optional improvisation audition can add up to five additional points to the overall score. Interested students will play two twelve-bar blues choruses in the key of F. The accompaniment source for the audition is from "Maiden Voyage vol. 54 track #10 "Tootsie"(Jamey Aebersold, Inc.) This separate audition is optional but strongly encouraged.

A bass trombonist will be selected from the top five trombone auditions. The selected rhythm section for the jazz ensemble will also perform with the All-OCDA High School Jazz Chorus at the OCDA conference the week before our OMEA conference in January.

The date for the tryout is November 22, 2014. Midwest City High School.

Please let me know if you need any additional information.
