Running a successful band program requires more than great rehearsals and strong teaching—it also requires effective systems behind the scenes. This session will help young band directors navigate the “business side” of their programs, including planning, organization, communication, finances, logistics, and more. Participants will leave with a google drive full of practical strategies and systems to bring order to the organized chaos of running a successful band program.

Choral directors join Dr. Jeff Wall as he presents "Efficient Rehearsals for Ensembles with Wide Skill Gaps" at the Fall Conference on Thursday, October 15th at Oklahoma City University!
Many choirs contain a broad range of experience, literacy, and vocal development, often within the same section. This session focuses on rehearsal structures and instructional strategies that maintain high standards without slowing advanced singers or losing developing ones. Rather than relying on extra rehearsals or constant remediation, participants will explore systems that allow ALL singers to remain engaged, accountable, and growing within a shared rehearsal environment.
Emphasis is on efficiency, clarity of task, and transferable rehearsal habits that reduce director burnout while increasing singer independence.
• Design rehearsals that serve multiple ability levels simultaneously
• Implement tiered rehearsal tasks without fragmenting ensemble focus
• Increase singer independence while maintaining musical accuracy
• Identify rehearsal habits that unintentionally widen skill gaps
• Apply practical strategies that work in time-limited school setting

Elementary teachers, join Tara Light as she presents "I Just Can't Keep From Singing" at the Fall Conference on Thursday, October 15th at Oklahoma City University!
Ella Fitzgerald said it best: "The only thing better than singing is more singing." But what if you have classes that JUST WON'T? THAT is the kind of challenge music teacher heroes are built to take on! Let's explore classroom culture, games, part-work, friendly competition, improvisational activities, and canons geared to keep your kids singing from the moment they enter your classroom...and just might get them in trouble for singing in the halls as well! LET'S SING!
